Dunaway and Beatty was given the incorrect envelope — the one containing the outcomes for Best Actress, that had been awarded to Emma Stone. It was a massive upset, and to say it was an awkward moment would be an understatement.
La La Land was the heavy favorite and bettors believed they would be collecting their winnings after Bonnie and Clyde declared Best Picture. Regrettably, those bettors found themselves on the losing side of a bad beat. On the flip side, those who took Moonlight to win Best Picture had it made.
