Virgil van Dijk plays down talk of new Liverpool deal

Virgil van Dijk says that he’s“not discussing anything at the moment“ seeing negotiations over a contract extension at Liverpool.
The Reds protector opened up to Sky Sports News reporter Bryan Swanson following Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat away to Napoli.
It was a miserable start to the defence of the Champions League campaign, particularly with the exemplary Van Dijk letting Fernando Llorente to steal a goal.
On the rear of reports earlier in September that he’d agreed a new bumper deal the 28-year-old, who transferred into Anfield for # 75m in January 2018 from Southampton, was asked if he wished to hold talks.
„There’s nothing happening, so that’s it,“ he explained.
Asked again about wanting to hold talks about’any extension‘, Van Dijk added:“That is not on me! I saw some reports from the media that I agreed things and a new deal.
„But I am not even discussing anything at the moment. The one thing I need to do now is focus on the games and we’re going to see in the long run what may occur.“
Van Dijk was under Jurgen Klopp in the center of the ascent of Liverpool, playing a leading role at the club’s path last year and their emergence as the main rivals for Premier League dominance of Manchester City.
By winning their first five Premier League matches, liverpool have created a start to their domestic campaign, however they face their greatest challenge so far when they travel to confront the Chelsea on Sunday, live on Sky Sports of Frank Lampard.
