Stuart Broad says he has a lot of Test cricket left in him for England after starring in Ashes
A“reinvented“ Stuart Broad says he has a lot of Test cricket left in him after composing for England from the attracted Ashes series.
Even the 33-year-old as he directed the attack in the absence of their James Anderson, chalked up 23 wickets against Australia such as David Warner seven days.
Broad didn’t play in Sri Lanka before Christmas and was also left from the opening Test against West Indies at January but says these breaks allowed him to fine-tune his game.
„I’ve been really pleased with how it has gone this past summer,“ said Broad, who now has 467 wickets at 132 Tests.
„I have gone from being spoken about as a diminishing cricketer being eased out to a reinvented cricketer using more to offer.
„In 33 years old, that’s a good place to be. The hard work was worthwhile. Fate allowed me to have the time during winter months to work on things.
„In Sri Lanka I did not play too much and that I managed to operate on a brand new run-up and stuff like my attacking intention that has paid wages.
„I’ve been as attacking in my regions, and making batsmen perform as much as I have for several decades.
„We speak about setting up the tone using the ball and I felt that this was my very best summer for a long time in terms of doing that with all the new ball.
„I felt a duty to direct that first 10 overs and I’ve had great energy running . I felt just like the mindset of trying to hit on the stumps really repaid.“
Broad contributed hugely to Warner scoring just 95 runs in the Ashes at 10 innings – the worst recording of any batsman to start as many days in a Test series that was single.
However, the seamer was left ruing that England couldn’t remove Steve Smith finely, with all the 30-year-old racking up 774 runs and just being discounted under 50 once – by Broad at The Oval.
„I had an extra duty to try and get their big players outside and that’s why I did lots of preparation on Warner,“ added Broad.
„I needed to really go fuller at him, I had to try and hit his stumps and I had to attempt to forget about his outside edge.
„I never dreamed I would have the achievement against him which I’ve had. But, naturally, that is in this series.
„If we place our numbers together over the course of our careers, how much we’ve played against each other, then I think they would be quite even.
„They had just one batsman [Smith] who was a 15 from 10 and we’ve not had this, that has been a massive difference.
„We would have liked to win the series but should we sit down in a week’s time with no emotion, then it is probably the ideal outcome.“
