Padres vs. Phillies MLB Pick – August 17th
As he blasted another home, the resurgence of Bryce Harper was on display again last night. Harper set the match out of reach into the chairs in what was a 5-0 match with the Padres pulling.
The Padres tacked to ensure it is an match, though that was all for a comeback bid from them. It was a huge win for the Phillies after sweeping the Cubs in 3 matches. There was a difficulty that the Phillies might have a hangover, but that was put to sleep Friday night.
They look determined to get to the postseason and have done themselves some favors in that respect lately. Mets the Brewers, and Cubs all lost, so that will help out them . Acquiring the Braves appears next to impossible in a 7-game hole in the NL East.
Keep playing like that and winning the Wild Card Game looks like a true chance. A popular run has spurred the run by Bryce Harper at the plate. It wasnt any secret that even the Phillies needed him to get going to have a shot.
In addition to Harper swinging the bat , the Philadelphia bullpen is going to need to continue making the stretch down also. There are a whole great deal of teams that are on needles and pins when they choose a slim lead in the 8th and 9th innings of matches. The Phillies recently acquired Jared Hughes to assist their bullpen a little. With all of the injuries the relievers have endured because of the Phillies, theyve been trying to put in a new arm with Zach Eflin being inserted into the starting rotation.
Eflin will get the nod tonight for his first start since July 27th from the Braves. He got punished on the bulge and has been demoted to the bullpen. Eflin was pitching well in the bullpen, but they need him to pitch in the turning. Saturday night the Padres will counter with sophomore Dinelson Lamet since their beginning hurler. The Phillies were left with a couple of options together with Zach Eflin. Either send him down to the minors and find it away or out into the bullpen. They moved with option B and it appeared to payoff. Even the Phillies bullpen desired thickness, so it made sense to let Eflin to throw from the bullpen. At 5.2 innings as a reliever, in his four latest appearances, Eflin was strong having allowed just 3 hits and also 1-run during the stretch. This was after he got drilled into a starting job.
Prior to getting demoted to the bullpen, Eflin was struck for a 11.37 ERA and 2.05 WHIP in 3 starts resulting in his stay in the pen. He had permitted 19 earned runs in 15.2 innings of play before trying out as a reliever. I wouldnt be surprised to find the Padres bothersome Eflin within his return to the starting rotation. Having said that, together with a hot bat swinging, Eflin is going to have plenty of run support.
Even the Phillies have scored 26 runs in their last few games. Bryce Harper combined for 10 RBIs in these three games. Dating back to August 9th, Harper has 16. Lamet has played well in seven outings, as he enters with a 3.86 ERA in his second season as a significant leaguer.
This looks like a matchup contrary to the Portuguese Phillies, though. Philadelphia are currently ruining the ball and there have not been any indications that they are slowing down. The score should get into the double digits, therefore the OVER appears like its well worth a look.
