Joe Root determined to captain England in next Ashes series
Joe Root is determined to captain England in the next Ashes series in Australia and“be in front“ of their bid to recover the urn.
Root has skippered England in 2 Ashes attempts – the 4-0 thrashing down in then the 2-2 draw and 2017-18 which has been sealed with a triumph at The Oval.
„Absolutely. I am very much pushed towards this,“ said when asked by Sky Sports‘ Michael Atherton whether he wished to lead England to the 2021-22 Ashes.
„We have got two-and-a-half years to prepare really well for it. I think that it needs to be a real focus on English cricket to do what we can to be in the best possible space for that.
„I want to be at the front of that, I wish to be contributing it hopefully be the guy to bring the Ashes back into England.
„It’s been a superb summer . The World Cup win was phenomenal and men have contributed absolutely everything in this Ashes series.
„Together we have proven a great deal of character throughout the whole series. We haven’t played our absolute best but we have fought really hard.“
The Oval Test indicated the conclusion of Trevor Bayliss‘ Faculties reign as Root and head coach was swift to praise the Australian’s influence and in Ben Stokes.
Stokes‘ stellar summer included starring in also a 135 and the World Cup at the third Ashes Test at Headingley since England pulled off a win.

„Over a time period you get very powerful relationships with coaches and players and those two (Bayliss and Stokes) have gelled really well.
„There is a great part of banter, they like taking the mickey out of one another, and a huge amount of admiration between them as well. That stands to get a enormous amount.“
About England’s Oval triumph, in which they dismissed Australia for 263 on day after Matthew Wade had held them up with a century, Root included:“I thought we had been excellent, from the first.
„To perform as we did having lost the toss was fantastic. I believed the game was driven by us. The attempt [on a wicket that is fantastic on the last day ], though it did twist. We stuck at it.“
