ECA meeting set to decide European football format from 2024
The European Club Association are set to meet to choose exactly what the future of European football will look like from 2024.
UEFA had proposed a built in Champions League arrangement with four groups of eight nightclubs, as opposed to the eight teams of four which exist right now. That would mean 14 games with some of those fittings to be played at the weekend.
There are suggestions 24 of the 32 teams would be guaranteed places at the competition for the next season, however well they performed .
However, the programs have been met from main executives, fan classes and leagues. This season Premier League clubs unanimously voiced their worries.
It is known there are along with leagues needing to change several fixtures concerns the changes would lead to calendars. There’s also a feeling eligibility that is merit-based is wanted by many .
As such, it is thought the ECA will reconsider the proposals and any changes will be much less radical than anything else envisaged.
