Down legend Eamonn Burns passes away
Down GAA have announced the death of former manager and player Eamonn Burns.
Burns, who was 56, directed the side between 2018 and 2016, guiding them to the Ulster in his . He stepped down from the role this past year following the championship loss to Cavan.
As a participant, he began in the Mourne Countys Sam Maguire Cup successes in 1991 and 1994 .
In a statement Wednesday afternoon, Down GAA announced the news:
Now the area of Down GAA has been rocked by the gloomy news that one of our most favourite sons Eamonn Burns has passed away suddenly. Eamonn was also a County Senior Team Manager and a dual Ireland Medal winner. To Colum and sister Mary, Sons Cathal and Thomas, brothers Malachy and his wife Sinead we extend our deepest and heartfelt sympathy.
Eamonn has been a great ambassador for Down for a participant and as a supervisor. He had been among the men that are good regarding the larger good, just and always selfless with his time needing. Down GAA are privileged to possess Eamonn Burns amongst our sons, he gave us as supporters several moments, he even brought a smile to our faces and in those times of 1991 and 1994 he helped bring us glory days.
Eamonn has already been taken from us too soon, well miss you Eamonn but well smile in the memory of the days which you gave us. Youre a genuine son of Down.
