As a participant, he began in the Sam Maguire Cup victories of those Mourne County against Meath and Dublin, in 1991 and 1994 .
In a statement Wednesday afternoon, Down GAA declared the news:
Today the area of Down GAA was rocked by the sad news that one of our most preferred sons Eamonn Burns has passed away unexpectedly. Eamonn was a County Senior Team Manager and a double Ireland Medal winner. To Colum and sister Mary, Sons Cathal and Thomas, brothers Malachy and his wife Sinead we extend our deepest and heartfelt sympathy.
Eamonn has been a terrific ambassador for Down for a participant and as a supervisor. He was among the men , always about the greater good, only and always selfless with his time needing to offer his best in almost any task he undertook. Down GAA were privileged to have Eamonn Burns we were given by him as supporters several magical moments, he even brought a smile to our faces and in those days of 1991 and 1994 he helped bring us.
Eamonn has already been taken from us too soon, we will miss you Eamonn but we will grin in the memory of those days that you gave us. Youre a genuine son of Down.
