Stuart Broad says he has a lot of Test cricket left in him for England after starring in Ashes
A“reinvented“ Stuart Broad says he’s a great deal of Test cricket left in him after starring for England in the drawn Ashes series.
The 33-year-old as he led the attack chalked up 23 wickets against Australia this summer, including David Warner seven days.
Broad did not play before Christmas in Sri Lanka and was also left out of this opening Test against West Indies in January however says these breaks enabled him to fine-tune his match.
„I’ve been really happy with how it has gone this past summer,“ said Broad, who now has 467 wickets in 132 Tests.
„I’ve gone from being talked about as a decreasing cricketer being eased out to a reinvented cricketer with more to offer you.
„At 33 years old, that is a great place to be. The hard work was worth it. Fate let me have the time throughout winter to work on matters.
„In Sri Lanka I did not play too much and that I managed to function on a new run-up and stuff like my attacking intent that has paid wages.
„I’ve not been attacking within my regions, and creating batsmen perform as much as I have for several decades.
„We speak about setting the tone using the new ball and I felt that this has been my very best summer for a long time in terms of doing this with all the new ball.
„I felt a responsibility to lead that 10 overs and I’ve had good energy running in. I felt like the mindset of trying to hit on the stumps really paid off.“
Broad contributed hugely to Warner scoring just 95 runs in 10 innings – that the worst recording of any batsman to open as many days in a Test collection that was single.
However, the seamer was left ruing that England could not remove Steve Smith so finely, with all the 30-year-old just and racking up 774 conducts being discounted under 50 after – by Broad at The Oval.
„I had an added responsibility to try and obtain their big players out and that is why I did lots of planning on Warner,“ added Broad.
„I needed to really go fuller , I needed to attempt to hit on his stumps and that I had to try and forget about his external edge.
„I never dreamt I would have the success against him which I’ve had. However, obviously, that is in this collection.
„When we put our numbers together throughout the course of our careers, with how much we have performed against each other, then I think they would be quite even.
„They had just one batsman [Smith] that was a 15 out of 10 and we’ve not had that, that has been a huge difference.
„We’d have really liked to acquire the show but if we sit down in a week’s time with no emotion, then it is probably the correct outcome.“
